Sophie Hirsch (born 1986, Vienna) lives and works in Vienna. In her abstract works, she addresses the human body, focusing mainly on themes such as structure, tension and balance. By adopting a variety of materials, some of them with contrasting characteristics, she creates a dynamic exchange between opposites, such as hardness and softness, transparency and opaqueness, heaviness and lightness, flexibility and rigidity. Her large-scale sculptures, made with huge silicone components, are matched with fabrics and mounted on aluminium structures balanced on plaster blocks. These works are packed with energy and fuelled by diverse forces that combine to form an entirely new and sensitive equilibrium.
