With Qui il sentiero si perde, Alessandro Artini presents a new body of paintings marking a significant development in his artistic practice. Landscape, a recurring subject in his work, takes on a new autonomy, moving beyond the representation of actual places to become a space shaped by memory and imagination.
While his earlier paintings maintained a connection to existing landscapes, his recent works depict entirely imagined places. Mountains, forests, rivers, and snow-covered expanses form unfamiliar geographies that nevertheless retain a sense of recognition. Drawing on fragments of personal experience, Artini creates landscapes that exist independently of any specific location.
The exhibition takes its title from the novel of the same name by Antoinette Peské and Pierre Marty, in which a journey through unknown territories gradually dissolves familiar points of reference. This literary connection resonates with Artini's approach to painting, where abandoning established paths opens up new possibilities for exploration and invention.
This shift is also reflected in his use of colour and light. Darker, deeper tones and stronger contrasts evoke the fleeting atmospheres of dawn and twilight, revealing certain elements while leaving others in shadow. The resulting images convey a quieter, more introspective sensibility, suspended between familiarity and estrangement.
Qui il sentiero si perde reflects a new stage of artistic maturity, in which landscape is no longer tied to direct observation but becomes a personal territory of exploration, shaped by the freedom to imagine what does not yet exist.
