The group exhibition Schatten auf Schnee brings together contemporary artists' approaches to the cryosphere, encompassing all forms of frozen water in the Earth's climate system. Through videos, photographs, documented performances, drawings, and objects, the exhibition presents perspectives and actions on ice and snow. Beyond scientific descriptions, the cryosphere becomes a site of artistic imagination here.

Many of the locations depicted in the works are far away – in Spitsbergen and Greenland, Alaska and Scandinavia. Their white reality is transported into the white cube by artists who grew up north of the Arctic Circle, live in the Arctic, or have traveled there. Some exhibits, however, refer to the immediate surroundings of the gallery: parts of the Alps also belong to the cryosphere, and the South Tyrolean perspective thus embodies an indigenous view of the ice landscape.
