RUDY CREMONINI

Rudy Cremonini (born 1981 in Bologna, Italy) lives and works in Bologna. Ambiguous, mysterious, at times melancholic and unsettling, his work evokes images that resonate from our imagination, memories, fears, and insecurities. Interested in circumscribed or enclosed living spaces, Cremonini portrays subjects such as animals in zoos, exotic plants in greenhouses and cruise ships which narrate the conflict between the need for safety and protection and the limitation of freedom of movement, a condition often guaranteeing the survival of the subjects themselves within that regulated system. Painting mainly with oil on canvas and preferring uncertain, subdued colours often in shades of grey, Cremonini ultimately investigates painting itself. He works on the canvas without preliminary drawings and follows the artistic creative flow not foreseeing the final output, but letting himself be guided and surprised by the unexpected solutions to which painting leads him.
