Walter Moroder (born in Ortisei, Italy, in 1963) lives and works in Val Gardena, South Tyrol. After studying at the Art School of Ortisei, he trained in the workshop of his father, the sculptor David Moroder, before attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Hans Ladner from 1983 to 1988. Over the past four decades, he has developed a distinctive sculptural language centred on the human figure, the relationship between body and space, and the expressive potential of wood, resulting in works characterised by formal restraint, stillness, and contemplative presence.

Throughout his career he has held numerous solo exhibitions in Italy, Germany, and Austria, including at Kunst Meran (2013), Städtische Galerie Fürth (2014), Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern (2017), Dommuseum Hildesheim (2018), Palazzo Chiablese in Turin (2019), and Galerie Chobot in Vienna, with which he has collaborated for more than two decades. His work has also been featured in important group exhibitions at Museum Liaunig (2022), the Albertina Museum in Vienna (2022), the Wuhan Art Museum and Guangdong Art Museum in China (2022), and the Zhejiang Art Museum (2021). In 2025, he participated in PANORAMA, the nationwide exhibition organised by ITALICS in Pozzuoli.

Since 2015, Walter Moroder has been represented by Galleria Doris Ghetta, which has presented four solo exhibitions of his work: Listening (2015), Di per di (2020), tl nia (2023), and Ondes (2026).
